Every time you feel like taking a life, it’s a chance you’ll get to do it. It’s not an easy life. I’m not saying it’s easy to live. But it is easy to die.
This is where guns come into play. This is where a lot of the arguments, debates, and discussion on this blog come from. For instance, the fact of the matter is that there are only three ways to get yourself killed. Suicide, homicide, or accident. A gun, if it’s in your hand, is the most convenient way to get yourself killed in a way that kills you with a single bullet.
So, I said there are only three ways to get yourself killed. If you’re suicidal, you must first commit suicide. If you’re homicide you must use a gun in the other two situations. If you’re an accident, you can use a gun to kill yourself.
So no, you need not be suicidal in order to get yourself killed. That would be just insane. But you can get yourself killed just as easily by accident, since you can drop a gun and get killed with a single bullet. That would be just insane.
People make this mistake too often, and it’s not because they lack any self-awareness. It’s because they assume that guns don’t kill themselves, and they’re so used to thinking so they don’t know any better. We know that guns can kill people, and that they don’t kill themselves. But that’s true of most anything. It’s not just guns you need to understand.
Yes, guns are capable of killing people, but not in the ways you think they are capable of. Not all guns are capable of shooting, and some are more likely than others to go off accidentally. It comes down to physics, and how well you understand what you are doing with a gun.
